Dear Save the Pine Bush Supporters,
Eighteen Save the Pine Bush supporters attended the oral argument for
our case about the proposed hotel in the Pine Bush in the Appellate
Division this past Friday, which is very, very good. Thank you to
everyone who attended!
Steve Downs, our attorney for the hotel case, gave an excellent oral
argument for why Save the Pine Bush has standing to sue the City over
its approval of the proposed hotel in the Pine Bush.
No decision was made by the court, and no decision is expected for
many weeks.
Important upcoming meetings about proposals to be built in the Pine
Bush. You presence at any of these meetings would be most welcome!
All meetings are held on the Second Floor in City Hall in either the
Common Council chambers or the Court Room, Room 209.
Monday, June 2, 7:00 PM - Albany Common Council meeting. Discussion
of the issue of rescinding the bonding for the proposed dump in the
Pine Bush may be discussed. Save the Pine Bush supporters should
come and speak at 7:00 during the open public comment period against
expanding the landfill in the Pine Bush.
Tuesday, June 3, 5:30 PM - Albany Common Council PLANNING, ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT AND LAND USE Committee will determine whether or not to
accept the SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT for the
proposed Hotel in the Pine Bush as complete. Yes, this is quite
crazy, since this exact same proposed Hotel in the Pine Bush is what
we are suing about and what we had the oral argument about on
Friday. Public comment is allowed at this meeting, and we should all
attend and ask the Committee to wait until the appeal in our court
case is decided (we did, after all, WIN in Supreme Court, it is the
City that appealed) before making any decisions at all.
Wednesday, June 11, 6:15 PM - Albany Common Council GENERAL SERVICES,
HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE. Bonding for the landfill will be
discussed (Save the Pine Bush believes that the City cannot bond for
the landfill expansion BEFORE the expansion has been approved by the
NYS Dept of Environmental. Conservation). Also on the agenda, a
discussion of the 20-year Solid Waste Plan.
I do apologize for sending three emails in the past few days. I wish
to assure you, that this list will only be used to make announcements
about extremely important meetings, court cases, or events regarding
threats to the Pine Bush.
After several months of little action, the proposed landfill and
proposed hotel in the Pine Bush are very much back on the City's
agenda. We must fight these proposals to protect the Pine Bush.
Thank you all very much,
Sincerely,
Lynne Jackson
